Common Questions about IELTS Exam Booking
Getting your exam date right is the first step toward your destination.
Q. How many days before the exam should I book my IELTS date?
It is recommended to book your date at least 2 to 3 months in advance, especially for popular Saturday slots, to ensure you have enough time for preparation.
Q. Are IELTS exam dates the same for Academic and General Training?
Academic tests are available on almost all test dates (including Thursdays). However, General Training is only available 2 to 3 times per month, usually on Saturdays.
Q. Is there a difference between Saturday and Thursday IELTS tests?
No. The difficulty level, format, and scoring are identical. Thursday tests are often less crowded but are only for Academic modules.
Q. Am I allowed to reschedule my IELTS exam date?
Yes, you can reschedule, but fees and conditions apply. Usually, if you reschedule at least 5 weeks in advance, it is easier. Rescheduling within 5 weeks of the test is only allowed for medical emergencies.
Q. Is IELTS moving to 100% computer-based testing in 2026?
There are industry projections indicating that paper-based tests may be phased out starting mid-2026 in several regions. While official confirmation is pending, we recommend students familiarize themselves with the computer-delivered format.
Q. How many times can I take the IELTS exam?
There is no limit to how many times you can take the IELTS. You can register for the next available date as soon as you feel ready.
Q. When are IELTS results usually declared?
For Computer-delivered IELTS, results are available within 3-5 days. For Paper-based IELTS, it takes exactly 13 days from the test date.
Q. Which documents do I need for IELTS registration?
You primarily need a valid Passport (original) for registration and on the day of the exam. Ensure your passport is not expired.
Q. Can I take the Speaking test on a different day?
Yes, the Speaking test can occur up to 7 days before or after the other three modules. You will be notified of your speaking slot separately.
Q. What is the One Skill Retake (OSR)?
IELTS now allows you to retake any one of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking) if you didn't get the desired score, without retaking the full exam. Check center availability for OSR.
